原本是由四個Uvic (University of Victoria)的學生組成的, 畢業後團員分散於各地 (台灣, 香港, 加拿大)為了各自的生活奮鬥. 2003年主唱 Yi-Ching 與團員 David, Josh 終於完成夢想,錄製了第一張專輯, 從此後Rice Magnet開始在台灣,香港兩地不定期的演唱.Rice Magnet不把生活中的不滿發洩在音樂裡面, 也不想要把音樂當成謀生的工具, 做音樂純粹是因為喜歡音樂. 樂風由於近幾年比較常接觸木吉他, 比較偏向民謠風格. Yi-Ching 與鼓手 James Wu 將帶給你相當感性的一個晚上. 上面團名的連結可以讓你先品嘗一下Rice Magnet 的風格. RICEMAGNET was formed in 1999 in Canada and is presently based in Hong Kong and Taipei. Crossing continents, the band's sound has been accordingly influenced by a range of alternative/indie/rock artists, with the resulting sound a blend of Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Wu Bai & China Blue.

Chris Huskey is a 17-year old singer/songwriter who was born in Washington, D.C., but has grown up around the world -- in Taiwan, India, Kenya, and China. He recently released his debut solo album Soldiers, Girls, and Nightmares with the help of Taiwanese band 輕鬆玩 (Relax-One), MusicFree, and HotRank Entertainment Corp. The album, a collection of Pop/Rock John Mayer/Dashboard Confessional-like songs, can be found in stores around Taiwan and the U.S., as well as on most digital music services. This 17-Year Old from Washington, DC has been working his way around the Taipei area with his John Mayer influenced Pop/Rock style. To Neraew is the solo acoustic project of guitarist/singer Sahil Mehrotra. Eliana has been playing the alphorn since the age of six. As a temperamental young lady she abandoned the folkloric costumes and the traditional melodies and turned to trendy outfits and modern latino, blues and jazz rhythms. As unusual it may seem, the combination of alphorn, jazz, pop, soul and funk works perfectly with her style. Thanks for the support of the TRADE OFFICE OF SWISS INDUSTRIE here in Taipei, Eliana will be giving her very first performance in Taiwan at the Living Room. Please come and enjoy her unique sound THE ALPHORN is a massive horn carved from solid softwood, generally spruce but sometimes pine. It is typically used in a pastoral setting. With only 16 available notes spread over 5 octaves, this makes playing a simple melody quite a challenge, let alone improvising over the changes to a jazz standard. All the notes are generate by changes in the mouth of the player and diaphragm – utterly amazing.

David Foster was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1979, and showed a natural love for music at a very young age. He began formal music training in piano and guitar at the age of 8, and by the time he had finished his studies in economics at the University of Stellenbosch, he had been active in many youth choirs and earned starring roles in musical productions of "The Sound of Music," "Grease" and "My Fair Lady," as well as playing blues and rock 'n roll in the most popular music venues in the Western Cape province of South Africa. David Foster has grown a loyal fan base in South Africa since recording his brilliant first album, Flat to Round and releasing it a little more than 2 years ago. Two tracks from the album are at present playlisted on Taiwan's own ICRT fm100 as well as more than ten stations in his native South Africa. He is a polished songsmith, an honest lyricist and an enthralling and passionate performer. David Foster was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1979, and showed a natural love for music at a very young age. He began formal music training in piano and guitar at the age of 8, and by the time he had finished his studies in economics at the University of Stellenbosch, he had been active in many youth choirs and earned starring roles in musical productions of "The Sound of Music," "Grease" and "My Fair Lady," as well as playing blues and rock 'n roll in the most popular music venues in the Western Cape province of South Africa. 由吉他手昆蟲白(甜梅號吉他手，錫盤街貝斯手)與非洲鼓手小洪於2003年組成，隨即參加多項地方性的文化節及音樂祭，並以「台北市街頭藝人」身分，不定點在各處街頭表演，從宜蘭童玩節、五分埔福德文化祭，再到草地音樂節、海洋音樂祭，甚至西門町和信義區的街頭，都可以看到吉朗的足跡。吉朗的音樂以西洋爵士鼓的節奏手法來表現非洲鼓，搭配即興迷幻色彩電吉他，簡簡單單兩個人，所要表現的也就是︰隨當下環境影響而生、自由自在、隨興而至的音樂。 Q) What do you get when you cross a guitar with a drum? David Foster was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1979, and showed a natural love for music at a very young age. He began formal music training in piano and guitar at the age of 8, and by the time he had finished his studies in economics at the University of Stellenbosch, he had been active in many youth choirs and earned starring roles in musical productions of "The Sound of Music," "Grease" and "My Fair Lady," as well as playing blues and rock 'n roll in the most popular music venues in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A respected musician, teacher, and world traveler, Denise left the recording industry for a brand new kind of music traveling... Time: 8:30pm - 10:00pm Hervie Syan - Elements of Tao/Aspects of Taiwan In tonight.s concert, British pianist/composer Hervie Syan explores the work of the famous Tao philosopher, Chuang Tzu in conjunction with image and sound. The ancient texts of Chuang Tzu are well known for their austere language and mystical nature. Narrated in Mandarin, these specifically chosen texts from Chuang Tzu come from the first seven chapters that are believed to be authored by Chuang Tzu himself. In dialogue with the spoken word, audiences will also be presented with thought-provoking photography of contemporary Taiwanese culture by South African photographer/ producer Tobie Openshaw. A further musical layer of piano commentary performed by Syan will blend word and image into a stimulating aural-visual experience.
Hervie Syan, born of Indian and British parentage in 1972, is a classically trained pianist and composer. Rather than performing the music of others, Syan brings jazz styles, Indian and classical music into his own musical language. Since his first major performance in 1997, Syan has performed extensively throughout Britain, Germany, and Canada. Syan came to Taiwan to explore TAO philosophy and the principle of wu wei (absence of thought/ correct action.) He believes in the bringing together of different cultures and artistic mediums through compassion. Syan is currently working on his second CD as well as developing his new record label, ‘ynsarecords’. Thur 7/27: 印度音樂聲影演奏會 Satyagraha – An exploration of Gandhi’s philosophy in musical terms
British pianist/composer Hervie Syan brings the principle of Satyagraha (non-violent resistance) created by Indian spiritual, political leader Mahatma Gandhi (1869 – 1948) into musical form. Satyagraha was the powerful tool that the Indian people used to eradicate British Rule in their nation in 1947. With awesome photography and images of Gandhi and India displayed on a back screen, you can expect to hear strains of Indian classical music formed from Syan’s piano music interacting with a pre-recorded montage of Indian musical structure played over loudspeakers. With spoken word, singing and the piano, the three parts – Conflict, Compassion and Satyagraha are a modern interpretation of Indian music and Gandhi’s message to the world – this event is not to be missed.
