Cara Speckhals - Cara played with Barbies until she was 14. Her current obsessions include Vespas, Stephen Colbert, and trying to make Taka laugh.

Fri 1/26: Hervie and Hamish: Plink, Paint, and Plunk

Hervie and Hamish met in Taiwan 4 years ago and have since talked about an artistic collaboration. Here it is! Now's the time!

Hervie Syan has recently held a number of concerts at the Living Room exploring multimedia performance, and proven his worth as a risk taker, challenging established conventions of what one expects from a solo piano concert.

Hamish has recently had a sabbatical from musical performance and will join Hervie in an art meets music duo. Hamish will discuss aspects of his art over the past three years, in collaboration with Hervie's performance. "Yeah," says Hamish, "On the stage with Hervie anything can happen." So be prepared for a night different to other nights. "Let's make friends and celebrate art and music. A special call goes out to anyone interested in painting and music. On one level the universal language of love expressed in the discipline of sound and music beyond words will be bridged and on another level words will path the way for meaning outside the act of musical performance."

The evening will feature spontaneous narration, artistic discussion, musical collaboration. Be prepared for an interesting, fun, and all around good vibe night.

Brian David Phillips has extensive experience in hypnosis and entertainment. In addition to being a dynamic communication and influence presenter as well as an extremely engaging speaker and focused trance/hypnosis trainer, he is a wonderfully entertaining stage hypnotist. His background with undergraduate and graduate degrees in communication and theatre and a natural sense of humor and comic timing serve him well as he presents an extremely entertaining program of hypnotic effects that is both fascinating and hilarious.

PROPAGANDA is bringing hip hop to Taiwan in a style never before seen. The venue becomes a classroom as PROPAGANDA teaches lessons and keeps the kids in their seats (when they should be). It's a storyline with comedy and aggressive, insightful music. Dropping science, Mathematics, Literature, Philosophy, and maybe a little Physical Education, the crew covers the bases of a solid curriculum.

The background shifts from the classroom to the streets as PROPAGANDA shows education isn't only learned within the classroom. The crew uses humor and thought provoking lyrics to demonstrate the lessons learned in the school of life while showing how some people you meet may not be who they say they are.

FROM BOOK SMARTS to STREET SMARTS, PROPAGANDA is bringing something to educate, entertain, and show the different dimensions of hip hop. Don't miss being a part of the experience.

Thurs 9/28: Hervie Syan Concert - 6 Portraits from the Twentieth Century engaged in musical form & Get Lit.

Hervie Syan

In tonight's concert, British pianist/composer Hervie Syan will present self- portraits of 6 Twentieth Century painters – Schiele, Rothko. Munch, Pollock, Freud and Klee. Audiences can observe and reflect on these whilst listening to music that engages the paintings. It is an opportunity to participate in an experience where painting and music co-exist, where identities between the painter, performer and observer find common ground and where boundaries between self and other can be identified. Performing on the piano and interacting with pre-recorded music, Syan brings imagination and culture to an event not to be missed.

Biography:
Hervie Syan, born of Indian and British parentage in 1972, is a classically trained pianist and composer. Rather than performing the music of others, Syan brings jazz styles, Indian and classical music into his own musical language. Since his first major performance in 1997, Syan has performed extensively throughout Britain, Germany, and Canada. Syan came to Taiwan to explore TAO philosophy and the principle of wu wei (absence of thought/ correct action.) He believes in the bringing together of different cultures and artistic mediums through compassion. Syan is currently working on his second CD as well as developing his new record label, ‘ynsarecords’. His first album, ‘an equality between expressions’, was released in 2003, and is a staggering artistic achievement in modern piano music.

聲響作品【Lag Jam】的新發表，特別邀請聲音藝術界活躍的藝術新秀I/O sound lab成員：王仲堃 姚仲涵與打開當代藝術工作站成員：徐建宇 線上Jam實況。分別於四地同時線上進行聲響表演。不論您選擇赴哪位藝術家的現場，您所經歷的是絕無僅有的「同一場演出」！
表演者們同時在不同展演場所上線表演，分別以各自製造聲響的方式在網路的平台上即興，彼此也都可以互把對方傳來的聲音當作素材使用。表演者依段落安排有時將同時使用二種以上及時通軟體的語音，不同家程式彼此間傳輸延遲率的差異，會致使網路彼端傳來的聲響具有類似殘響或延遲(dealy)調變的效應，電傳延遲的隨機介入亦成為即興表演內容………………………。

A Moving Sound is a highly creative music group founded by ex-New Yorker Scott Prairie and enchanting vocalist Mia Hsieh.
